240 sunroof leakage 200

We got quite a bit of rain in Chicago yesterday and the 'ol sun roof is treating me with a nice shower of icy water...not to mention the rust it can/will cause.

What can I do to fix the leaky sunroof? I've cleaned the crud out but that doesn't take care of it. That piping/seal up there is all broken up and the ones I've found online cost $60. Too rich for my blood.
Also, the heated seats haven't worked in years. How does one troubleshoot this? Is it costly to fix?

Any advice is super appreciated?

thanks,

chris

About a week ago I had a leak from the front corner which drained water onto the drivers seat. A blast of compressed air cleared the drain out. If you think your drains are clear, pour water down the front ones and watch at the rocker panel for the water.

The seals are not really designed to be watertight on the sunroof. The roof sits in a metal pan that has a drain hose on each corner. So even if water gets through the roof seal water should not drip into the passenger compartment.

The front hoses go down the window pillars and exit around the door hinges. The rear ones go down the rear pillars and can be seen in the trunk. Check to make sure these hoses exits are not plugged. You can check the pan by pouring water into it with the roof open. Water should start draining out the hoses. If is starts dripping in the car you have a problem with the pan or the hoses.

I would not bother replacing the seal around the roof unless you are getting wind noises from it on the highway.

Spring for the $60 to replace seals. Really that is all that will repair this problem. Or if you are really tight on money guess you could buy a $5 tube of outdoor caulk and caulk it sealed from top and that replace seals at a later time. Do not ignore this as indeed it can/will cause rust and other problems.
