This is a white 85 245 with immaculate tan cloth interior. It has a B230F, M46 runs and drives great. Only issues (visibly speaking) are a cracked to heck dash top, surface rust on the rear hatch, and a minor scuff on the wheel arch above the left rear wheel. Documented 191K miles with full dealer and Indy support documentation. AC, windows, heat, radio, and on and on and on, it all works.
Engine is leaking up front and the rear seal seems to have puked so it uses some oil although the plugs are clean. M46 shifts fine, no clunks, rattles or unexplained noises. Does need one dog dish hubcap, four tires, and an exhaust system, O2 sensor and probably CAT (O2 sensor is unplugged). Suspension bushings are great and the shocks/struts have four years on them. Yes, wiring harness has been replaced.
Now for my question, this is a 21 year old car that needs a bit of work, what is a fair price to pay for this ride? I know this is a rough question without pics, but please give it a swag. The condition of the engine doesn't concern me too much... I have a "monster" in the works.
Thanks in advance!

Well, it appears the seller knows its a cream puff and thinks its gold plated! Wants $1500 for it... really nice car but does need minor rust work and tail lights. Everything else in the car works fine. If interested, let me know and I'll put out the contact information.

ps. I'm passing on this one.

Now you are talking; 85-86,strong gearbox, peppy motor!
BUT also check UNDERBODY for rust, spoiler and belly pan, inside rear
spare tire wells for collision damage/rust,push bumper struts
for oil leaks, body margins, steering u joint connector and rack,
lift gate: hinges/struts/wiring/wipe/wash/power door lock,
in tank pump for a 'hack' wiring job, rubber door/hood seals,
and as someone mentioned the sneaky rear 1/4 window back corner rust.
It does sound tempting, especially the M 46 + Monster part.
Not only that, the 4 square headlights are next best to the
flathood/slopenose 7 inch rounds.
$1000 is a good price for a solid start for a project.
But you should start lower due to engine issues,
especially if it isn't smogged.

Ken:
Thanks for the input! The smog issue is bad, it hasn't been "certified" in over eight years! My plan is to gut the engine and implant an "alien power plant", so I will pay extra attention to the structural rust issues, if it is rotten, I'll walk away, but if I feel it can take the power of the "monster", I'll go for it... watch out Turbo Bricks! I'm taking a different approach!
This will be a "stealth" project, ie. except for wheels and ride height it will look totally stock. I'm thinking I could own a few Honda Pinks within a week with this pup! Your right, I'm dreaming, but I'm not done dreaming yet!

John;
Shop carefully, we got alot of clean well cared for cars in
Nor-Cal,in fact there is a nice tan 85-245 on CL here that
has been on for weeks now down to asking $1000 smogged.
Heck why not a 242-GT flathood/slopenose?
Saw one in the foothills for $875 a while back some dents
though, but one family owned.
Of course one can never tell what they are really like
until they are gone over with a fine tooth comb.
It's such a big Country,long drive across,otherwise...

Hi John.
the 85 is my favorite 240 because of the older body style and the newer lh 2.2
plus the rotary a.c.compressor.
im not sure of a fair price, but the cheaper the better.
i wouldnt go over 700 but i would offer 400 bucks.
but im always looking for cheap transportation.
it may be worth more to some folks? as we all know its worth what someone will pay.
its been said here (arent they all projects)
good luck

Insurance gave me $1,100 about 2 years ago for the same car after a Ford Explorer rear ended me. Mine had a ton of rust in the drivers side floor boards, trans cross member mount, and behind the rear wheels and it was always a Florida car. Up through 88 I believe were known for bad rust problems so check out underneath real close before you put that V-8 in it. Dan

We're being teased! Also rust through on the bottom of the rear side wagon windows. Dan

Dan:
Yep, you are correct, I'm "teasing" about the power plant... I'll post when it is done and ready to go! I can assure you that for the most part it's Volvo and not American Iron!
I will also take your advice and check out the sheetmetal under the wagon windows... Ultrasonic inspection devices are great aren't they!
Thanks for the input!
