Leaves in the center console 200 1989

There're lots of leaves inside the center console (where the blower motor is, but not inside the blower motor housing) behind the removable plastic. Where'd they likely come from?

Leaves in the center console - reducing or eliminating... 200 1989

All my 240s live in the driveway, under the tall shedding pines and oaks.

Once had the same problem, along with the worry that the leaves and needles can wind up down inside the rocker panel, getting wet, turning to compost, rusting out metal, and maybe growing various flora and fauna.

My solution was snow caps. They look like forward-facing air scoops, with clips that snap-fit into the bars of the grille. Two types, depending if your brick has the long long grille or two short ones. Black and paintable to match.

They came from IPD, cost IIRC arount $50 including shipping. They are a Volvo part, and are not always in stock. Call them first.

Another protector, from another BB member years ago, is a piece of hardware cloth. Get the type with 1/4-inch squares to keep out even the small stuff. Cut it to a strip a little longer than the grille, and a bit narrrower than the widest slot. Two such strips for the 1986+ models.

Tie a yard long string into a square on each end, near the center of the width. Then snake the string into the grille through the widest slot and out the slot on the end nearest the fender. The hardware sloth can then be carefully pulled into the inside of the grille, pushed in far enough to be entirely inside, with the "tail" string still out. That string needs to be manipulated out the other end of the grille.

Now you can pull the string tight, and start attaching the hardware cloth to the grille bars using small clear zip ties. They will show, but not much.

This second method is cheaper, shows, and does the very best job.

    Good Luck,

    Bob

I think the air pickup for the hvac system is
thru the foreward frame rails from the cowl.

Trees Dude! Leaves come from Trees. Where to you live? The moon?

    Couldn't resist.

I had a lot of leaves too. around the back of my console at the recirc flap. I figured they came from opening and closing the doors and just gathered there over time getting sucked by the air intake.

Maybe somebody actually has a logical answer

Just installed a stereo in a friend's 88 244- same thing! Tons of dry leaves packed into the center of the front of the airbox.

Any shop vac with a decent hose on it ought to get in there just fine.

At first I thought it was a rat's nest and didn't have the guts to put my hand in there. I used a long screwdriver, then my hand.
