had enough with my center console; out came the angle grinder 200

brickboard,

maybe its just me but one of the most frustrating parts to work on for my 240s is the stupid plastic center console.

i usually end up cursing and cracking the thing when its time to take it out.

the problem usually comes down to those pesky metal stoppers that are bolted onto the car with the seatbelt receivers. the purpose of these stops seems to be to keep the seat belt receivers from moving too far up or down. problem is that these stoppers have little ears that key into the side of the plastic consoles.

when i try to take the center console out there is usually a battle back there where the little ears are.

well i fixed that problem. i took my angle grinder and cut the darned little ears off. ideally, i would have unbolted the seatbelts and removed the whole stopper, but my bolts dont want to come out.

now, my console goes in and comes out in a snap:

move the seats up
bend the belt receivers back (they no longer get caught on the stoppers)
take out the 2 retaining screws
pop off the conectors of electrical wires
pick up the rear of the console and push it up to release it from the retainer slot in the front
its off

when i put the console in, i let it go over what is left of the stopper. nice and clean and simple. no more cracking the console for me.

brillant. genius. 9 out of 10 stars.

even though i have worked in that area (and cracked my console twice), the only thing better would be some pictures of how you did it.

still, a great idea that i'll have to pilfer & pretend like i made it up :-)

my b230, all flash without the blast

Just curious what kind of paint did you use on the valve cover?

With regard to pilfering -

The unwritten rule is, or ought to be:

You must give attribution for the first three times you use it, after that it's
yours.

No, I don't have the source of the rule, it's been nore than three times.

Keep on Truckin Rolling
