want to install my 5 bar vdo oil pressure gauge ... I'm lost ...where do I start. 200 1991

Hello all I have a 5 bar oil pressure gauge that I want to install but have no clue how to do it . I posted a similiar question a few weeks ago and someone gave me a link to e-gauges.com but I dont know what type or size sender I need, secondly what size wrench do you need to take the old sender off that works the idiot light . I tried using a 22mm and it was too small. can someone tell me the right sender I need and the right size wrench I need to take out the old sender ,and some good instructions on installing the gauge. Thanks rf64.

hi ron
i have the sender you need (used), somewhere in my boxes of stuff = very cheap.
next go to auto zone and purchase bushing adapter kit= sunpro cp7573, it comes with 5 bushings and one of them is M14x1.5 to 1/8" which you will need to adapt the sender to block.
you will need to run one wire from the connector on the oil pressure sender, look closely it has a G marking on the sender, this connects to the G connector on the 5 bar guage. you must run through firewall then seal up to protect from water infiltration.
you will need to remove the idiot light sender in the engine block, there is a black wire connected to the idiot light sender this you will connect to the WK marking on the 5 bar oil pressure sender.
on the back of the guage there is a + marking, this is power feed, run a wire to fuse 13 to the + marking to power the guage.
on back of guage there is a marking that looks like a upside down T, this means ground and you must run a wire from the (T) mark to ground.
then there is the light bulb, splice the black wire on the light bulb to the same ground used to ground the guage.
also there is a brown wire going to light bulb, this brown wire must splice into the brown wire that feeds the center console lights.
good luck
mike

I am also installing a 5-bar oil pressure gauge. I have the 5-bar sending unit from my old car. I'm getting my next oil change in a few days (I don't do them myself typically), and I'm just going to have the guys install the sending unit while they're changing the filter because it goes right there anyway. I'll take care of wiring up the gauge myself. You might consider this option as well if you don't have the right tools. It shouldn't take more than a minute for them to do so it's not like it'll cost you an arm and a leg.

My oil pressure gauge is one of 5 that I have installed. I took the three gauge cluster out of my GLT and also added the clock and a vacuum gauge. So for me the wiring of the guage is already taken care of as it's a pigtail harness - I just have to run a wire from the guage to the sending unit. If you're only installing the oil pressure gauge just run ground from the lightbulb socket and tap a hot wire into an existing console lightbulb hot wire (usually brown). Then I believe there are another 2 or 3 wires, one going to the sending unit, one to the fuse panel (mine goes to #13 - but it powers the whole cluster) and possibly another ground. I realize this probably isn't helpful, but hopefully you'll get something out of it.

m14x1.5 is the thread size and pitch.

the above size at egauges is expensive so it may be cheaper to get another size that comes with adapters for your b230.

all you need to figure out is if you want a single or dual ground.

single = just oil pressure gauge, you'll have no more idiot light

dual = oil pressure gauge & idiot light connections (i use this kind).

Volvo used to sell a sender kit with the correct sender and all the adapters needed to fit to any redblock. It was about 75 bucks Canadian. Not as cheap as eguages, but all the parts are included. I got one about 4 years ago, not sure it they still sell it.

The right sender , have no idea. but the sender is a 24mm and you are best using a deep six point socket. And disconnet the + terminal on your battery because the back of the alt is hot and easy to get too with that socket handle.

I belive they wanted you call and ask what the correct sender is. You could go to a stealership and pay out the nose or another oriface.

Good luck,

PT
