watr pump leak 700

just started to leak a little around the water pump, it's cold, my neck is bad, I depend on the car, stop leak or bit the bullet and take it to the garage. A couple months ago I might be looking forward to working on it myself but my bones just won't let me.

The hard bit is getting compression on the top O ring enough to put thre bolts in. I used a jack and extension bar.

I just got done doing the water pump on my B230F yesterday. My pump to cyliner head o-ring had left large puddle on the floor overnight. My strong suggestion echos the other, if you're a-hurtin, find someone to turn the wrenches for you. The FAQs fail to tell you that it's easier to use a punch in the top bolt hole to lift the pump compressing the o-ring while inserting the bolt directly under the large outlet to the radiator. I then used a screwdriver handle in the outlet port to rotate around that lower bolt again compressing the o-ring and put in the top bolt. Lots of buzz says you should keep an extra set of 0-ring, pipe o-oring, and gasket on hand. Hope this helps ease the pain.

Tellyou what I know your pain, in fact I'm feeling sympathy twangs right now. Have gone through a month of lower back agony following one t-belt replacement.

Try to use a good light and a mirror to locate the source of the leak. At the top under the head, the donut seal can weep for months or years a drop here and there, especially in the cold, without getting worse or becoming urgent.

Around the paper gasket, the leak can grow from a drip to a spurt to a gusher in a day.

Out the weep hole in the casting beyond the bearing and seal, a bit of green is tolerable, but a steady leak will usually tell you the bearing is shot, which you can feel once you relieve the belt pressure.

That mirror should do the work instead of craning your neck.

Depends on your health insurance-- if you end up needing an MRI because of what you did to your neck while replacing the waterpump, which would probably only cost you the price of the part and an hour of labor, you will be well behind in the on your financial balance sheet by going the doing it yourself route on the installation...

Can you call on a friend to wrench for you and just be the "manager" of the installation process?

Good luck!
