960 Differential removal with IRS 900

Does anyone have a procedure/diagram on removal of the differential on the late 960's with independent rear suspension? I have a good low mile unit to replace the old one with, but I want to plan the job well before I dive in.

    Hello, 90 and up to 94 were almost the same. 95 to 98 are a little different. If you have just a little common sense it requires the bolts to be removed from the body to frame connection points and the top of the shock bolt and the drive shaft and the electical conn. to the speed sensor. The unit needs to be supported on both sides of the fiberglass spring while you jack the body up to remove the unit. Pauli

    960 Differential removal with IRS 900

    Multi Link Suspension dissambly is not for the faint of heart. Needs to be up on a lift with good supports to lower the entire suspension. I recently had a job done on my V90 that involved dropping the suspension to install the upper and lower bushing that clamp the diff in place, took an experienced Volvo indy mechanic about 8 hrs with all the right equipment.
    Curious, is the old differential bad? Never heard of one failing.

    Dear Jim E,

    Good p.m. and may this find you well. I have this manual - TP65011201: Multilink rear suspension MkII, 960 (1995- ) - published August 1994. I never used it. It is in pristine condition.

    I'll quote you a reasonable price: e-mail me. If you need it sent tomorrow (23 December) I can do that. As it weighs only 8 ounces, First-Class Mail is the way to go. You should have it on Tuesday.

    I ahve the manual for the 1995+ Multilink II system. If the procedure is only a few pages and you can wait until next year I scan them here at work and e-mail them.
