My teen driver...ugh! 900

I spent a considerable amount of time this past Fall putting my '93 940 wagon (209K miles) back on the road after a year of sitting in the driveway waiting for my 16 year old son to get his driving slip. It got new rotors, calipers, parking brakes, alternator, head (it had a pre-existing head gasket leak that I needed to fix a second time), tail light lenses, tires, coolant and tranny flushes, and good a "scrubbing". A quick 2400 miles later he slid it off a snowy road and totalled it. He's fine...a little shaken up, but very disappointed. I could have been worse. The damage to the car is concentrated in the rear, so all the new parts are salvageable. I'd like to replace it with a similar car, since I'm familiar with basic maintenance procedures on it. This car's VIN is/was: YV1JW883XP1071835

What is the best way to find a car with the same equipment? What should I be avoiding?

Thanks.
Marty

Hello Marty,
I am glad to hear he is all right. The cars you want to consider are 90 and up. Parts will work in 1986 and up to 90, but the bodies of these babes are not as well constructed and the use of galvinised metal for rust protection was not incorporated in the model until 1990, but some 89's have it just not all. The a/c system in 92 and up is great, but below it barely cools. The wire harness for the 91 and up is the same, but there was three or 4 different set-ups for the engine, some with cold injection, some with EGR, then the others that had none of the above. I would stay in the 90 and above. I think you will have good luck. Pauli

I think you started off with a car where he was too insulated from both the
cost and the road. My kids learned to drive in a 67 122s (Li'l Red) and a
69 164. With the seat belts buckled they are pretty safe.

BTW, when they broke them, THEY fixed them too!
(Yes they are all girls!)
