'81 245 (w/ auto tranny) has little, to no, power when you hit the gas w/ the car in drive........ 200 1981

My friend's '81 245 has had this problem for a few days now. The car does have plenty of power when you hit the gas and it is in neutral. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Danke :)

How can you tell if it has "power" when it's in neutral??? Do you mean it revs easily?

If it indeed revs easily in neutral yet bogs down under load (i.e., in gear), then there's a good chance it's getting insufficient fuel. Things to check (research these here in the BB)in no specific order are:
- fuel pump relay
- fuel pump fuses
- fuel pressure regulator
- fuel filter

The next most likely culprit is a vacuum leak. Check all the vacuum lines under the hood, the intake manifold gasket, and the intake passage downstream of the air mass meter.
