mounting Fog Lights onto a 90 740t 700

I got Fog Lights for Penguin Day (instead of Christmas), so YAY! I live in one of few places that have fog light 1ft. off the ground and have been wanting fog lights forever.

My 90 740 turbo has the new style front valence/air dam and no pre-cut spaces for fog lights. I don't really know how to mount them now. The wiring I've got down, but the mounts are a problem. I know I'm going to have to cut at least a bit of the valence material because the valence is totally not going to work as a place to mount them. (duh)

1) Do the volvo mounts work with this year? (If so, where do they attach?)
2) Where is a good place to attach them? I'm thinking the cross brace behind the bumper, but haven't looked carefully yet.
As for the brackets, I had only thought of fabricating some by hand out of steel reinforcement straps for wood beams.

Any suggestions would rock,
Will

If they didn't change the aluminum bumper under the valance when they put on the new nose, there should be two holes predrilled in the lower face on each side. That's where the fog lights attached on the older models.

I think the aluminum bumper changed to a single sided reinforcement strip from a 3-sided squarish bumper... if that makes sense. So now the only metal available is on the back of the vertical face of the plastic bumper.

That's nice but it's exactly NOT what Will's got.

I've got a 90 740GL that had factory lights. Or more specifically, homemade half-assed installation of the proper factory lights.

The aluminum bumper beam is in there, all wrapped in bumper plastic and inaccessible. Best bet I think is just to drill some holes with self tapping screws (at work we call 'em Tek screws).

I'm assuming that Will, you have some kind of generic Hella or other bracket-mount fog light, i.e. a typical rectangular glass face and a U-shaped mounting bracket that bolts up with one or two screws? The factory light for the late cars is a form-fitting plastic pod with an asymmetrical glass face. These exactly match the contours of the outer corners under the front bumper and look cool! But they do seem hard to find.

      Good luck with it!

Thanks for the help. Yes the lights are generic, but have a very narrow beam and a bulb shield (bounces light from the bulb into the reflector instead of directly out), so I'm happy with them.

I have two issues with how to attach them now... What are you suggesting I drill into, and what do I do with the top bolt?
It seems like it might be easier to just cut the bumper plastic and mount them with factory mounts.

        Thanks for responding,
        Will
