Bilstein part numbers 140-160

Have just purchased some Bilsteins for my 1974 144 from Skandix (USA) and want to make 100% sure the part numbers are correct before my friend in Colorado ships them across the world to me.

They were advetrtised as "Bilstein Sport" for 140/160 series. The actual part numbers on the shocks are :
Front F4-B46-0289-H1
Rear F4-B46-0296-H1

Fronts match the current Bilstein catalogue number for "B6 Sport" shock for a 140, but the rears match the Bilstein number for a 240 (Bilstein catalogue doesn't list a rear shock for the 140 series).

Can someone who has a set of Bilsteins in their 140 check the numbers for me ? I am guessing that seeing mt car is a late model that the 240 rears will fit OK anyway, with maybe just a bush replacement at worst.

I figure if they are wrong, it will be easier to sort out while they are still in the USA!

Thanks in advance

Dave

PS : Even with shipping costs & exchange rate, they will be half the price I would have paid for them out here ....

I read somewhere that the OEM size 140-160 rears are no longer available. You have to retrofit a Volvo kit to change the diameter of the body attachment *I think*.

In any case this is the WHY of your part no.s not matching... but exactly what to do about it you might have to talk to IPD or a local Volvo dealer if there's one near you.

this is why I don't have Bilsteins yet...

From a bit of research elsewhere, its just a matter of swapping the lower shock mount bolt/stud from the 5/8" one in the 140 to the metric size (12mm?) one from a 240 - although being a l974 model mine may well be the same as the 240 anyway.

Either way, it won't be a big deal I don't think.

At $75 each from Skandix they were too cheap to pass up ....

Chuck the Volvo stuff away at the bottom except for the spacer inside the arm & use some new grade 8 bolts with a couple of hardened washers.

I was thinking along those lines myself Paul ..... will sort it when they arrive in a few weeks ! You happen to know exactly what size bolts ?

It will end up costing me less than AUD$500 all up to get them landed here ..... the Australian Bilstein distributors both quoted me around $400 a PAIR for the same shocks.

At $90 a corner to get the Konis overhauled, it was a pretty easy decision .....
