volvo 940 lacking power 900 1996

940 se turbo 2.3 1996
hi,

need some help , just had my cambelt replaced and spark plugs changed , but since, my car has lacked power , can,t seem to drive faster than 20 mph , put my foot on accelerator and nothing it just does not want to go , you can feel it pulling back and if i slam my foot down it stalls ,

any ideas as to what is the problem , could it be incorrectly tensioned cambelt???
don,t want my mechanic to say its something else to cover his tracks .

car was running fine till i had this done ,

Help please !!!!.

Andy.

I have to agree, sounds like he simply got the cam belt incorrectly timed.

Need to set the crank pulley to the TDC mark (long 0 mark on lower cover) and check the timing mark on the cam pulley against the upper back cover.

If it was working correctly just before the work, then it's almost certainly this.

    Good luck with it!

Hello Andy, Check the cam timing again. I think you will find it is off. Check the crank gear for alignment and not the balancer, because the balancer mark can move if the rubber breaks away from the inner pulley. I hate to say it, but your mechanic never test drove the car before and after the job, tisk, tisk. Find a better mechanic!

      hi ,

thanks for the advice , have spoken to my mechanic and mentioned the cambelt timing , he said its not the cambelt ,
he now says if the car is not juddering and the engines not jumping about while idling then it can,t be the cambelt .
he reckons it might be an electrical fault , like a relay blown , something to do with cold start , hes not seen the car yet ,

      does this sound correct,
any more advice would be appreciated.

      thanks
