What to order when replacing center carrier bearing. 700

I confirmed I have a carrier bearing problem by jacking up the rear and listen with a stethoscope. It sounds like a scraping noise and howl at low speed.

Anyway, should I just order the carrier snd bearing? Are the bellows generally OK? Will the U joints last much longer if I don't replace them now?

What, the center support bearing?

If there is nothing wrong with the u-joints, leave them alone. They'll tell you when they are going bad.

My u-joints get greased twice a year and they may be original(447,000) and I can verify 315,000 mi. The bellows is also still good.

The OE parts are a much easier precise fit on the center bearing and I strongly recommend the rock guards, front and rear. I went through a couple aftermarket center bearings before ponying up for the OE and guards.

Driving some dirt roads in Arkansas without rock guards made short work of one bearing.

Even though it's a sealed bearing it needs that protection. Do you have the flex disc in the front position? That may have some cracks!

Did you add zerk fittings to grease your U joints? Mine are original spicers. Do you squeeze grease in until it flows out the caps? I am told there is a screw that can be replaced to add a fitting.

I can order the SKF bearing and the Volvo rear boot. I only see the after market carrier listed. You say there is a front ring that deteriorates and should be replaced, too?

It's called a flex disc. It's a large (6 in) rubber donut between the end of the tranny and the driveshaft. They get hard and start cracking after a while. I don't think all 740's have them.
