Bentley Falling Apart 200 1993

Hello Bricksters,

My Bentley's binding is torn and falling apart. I suppose I could duct tape it, but there is often a better way. What's your ideas on how to handle this before it falls apart. I'd put it in a looseleaf, but there isn't enough room to punch holes.

Thanks,

Marty Wolfson

And the Winnah Is! 200 1993

    Hello and Good Morning,

posted by someone claiming to be Lawrence on Tue Jan 9 18:35 UTC 2007

Heres the cheap solution. Wrap a couple of large rubber bands around it. Seal it in a huge freezer bag. When you use it, handle with extreme care. I have several manuals that Ive been keeping that way for years. It works for me.
    Just my 2 cent worth.

    L.

Lawrence wins with his rubber band, freezer bag idea. Cheapest, easiest, kind of duct tape type repair; right up my alley. Second was the Protector Pages, but much more tedious.

    Thanks guys for your thoughts,

    Marty Wolfson

Three Ring Binder AND Sheet Protectors 200 1993

I've got some pretty rare manuals for an equally rare vehicle (1950 Tatraplan). My solution was to put the individual pages in "sheet protectors".

The "economy" protectors are about 7 or 8 cents apiece and work well.

These are plastic sleeves with holes on the side to place in binders. You need not punch holes in the pages themselves. An added benefit for a workshop manual is that the protectors keep dirt and grease off of the pages!

Friends say that I am so tight (with a dollar) that I hum in a high wind.

    Here's what I would do:

Call around to print shops, find one that has a paper drill. Take your Bentley and get holes drilled like for a 3-ring notebook.

Go to Office "X" (Depot or Max) or some other office supply store, and buy a "D" ring notebook of a size not too large. A 2-inch should work, maybe a 1.5 inch.

Copy the front of the book and slip it into the front of the notebook.

You will gat many more years from it.

    Good Luck,

    Bob

    mine too.

i was thinking a binder & a three hole punch was the only way.

you're not going to be able to re-glue it, so what's left?

i'd like to scan every page into my p/c and burn it to compact disc.

I scanned my Haynes book to a PDF. Works great. Only thing is when doing a repair I have to print the instructions.

you could always go to a book binder. hard cover is not that expensive.

        Your Bentley is worth it
