1990 740 coolant temp sensors

I was wanting to tune up my 740 and have a question about the coolant temp sensors. Are these two sensors the same or do they have different part numbers?

My gauge sensor works fine, but I thought I would change out my other sensor just in case there is corrosion on it that providing a false read to my ECU.

Are there any aftermarket sensors for this application?

Thanks!

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. They are simple devices, and can be accurately checked for proper function by measuring resistance with a DVOM. Then use the resistance/temp chart in the Bentley, Chilton's or other manual to see if it is in spec.

Or post back here with the resistance measurement, and temp readings, and someone could check the chart for you.

I had to replace the one on my 92 740 about 3 months ago. I went to Advance Auto Parts and had them order me one based on my model/year. When I got it home the next day, it did not fit due to the fact the plug connector they ordered for me was rectangular, and the one on mine was square on the bottom and rounded on top. I took it back and they pulled out a large manual and we looked at pictures till we found the Sorensen sensor with the half round plug. Ordered it and installed it the next day, worked perfectly. My advice is make sure they order the one with the plug that will fit your application. good luck.
