Camping in 1969 120-130

My mother passed along a few photos.

This was taken in summer 1969 at Burlingame Park in Rhode Island.
May have been the maiden voyage for this trailer, a Cox pop-up.
Had a Hilltop pop-up the summer before this. Also towed by this 220. Kind of big for it though.

This is now my 220. My dad bought it new in Dec. 1967. The trailer is long gone. Too bad, it was a great size for us (5). The car is in my garage...95,000 miles. Looks the same now as it did then. I even put whitewalls back on it!

Oh well, it's fun to look back.

That is very cool. A lot like the heirloom pic I got for my own Amazon. However, yours is much cooler being a family photo. Very cool indeed!

A bit confused about the year. I guess you have a late-production 67 with the dual-circuit brakes? My 67 did not have the side reflectors. I do have the roof-rack, however.

Yes, the period photos are nice to have. Only had two others, but they didn't show more than maybe half the car. Maybe she'll find others.

Regarding the year, this is a 1968 model. Kind of early in the run. Chassis number is around 65800 or so. I believe the '68 220s started with chassis 61000. The car does have the dual circut brakes, reflectors, head restraints, bow-tie steering wheel, knee pad and plastic vent window locks.

Taking a closer look at the photo now, and the head restraints are removed. I think when my dad first got the car he felt they obstructed his view so he pulled them out. Glad he didn't toss them in the trash!

Well, since you asked . . . . 120-130

As I mentioned in my post in the PV Forum, I've been whiling away the winter months trying to salvage a bunch of 35mm slides from my distant past. These were among them. The b&w one is of a 122S I bought in Holland in 1959 - Dutch friend on the right, I on the left, as usual. ;-) The slide had turned a deep maroon, and this was the only way I could partially recover the image. The car was red and light beige. The black car is a 1961, with my wife atop Mt. Washington in N.H. shortly after we bought it - the car, not Mt. Washington. I kept the wife - she says it's the other way around - but sold the car twenty years later for more than the $2500 I paid for it - skinnier dollars, of course.

Izzat baby Forest Green with the tan interior? If so, I just bought, and put back on the road, the sister to your car (I don't have the roof rack though, dammit)! My numero uno, favorite, year and trim package!!!

Lucky us... even more so for you, cuz yours is an heirloom.

Waaay cool!!!!
