It needs a new Air Box Thermostat. Does anyone know how to do away with it. Seems to me if it is not working correctly, it can destroy an Air Mass Meter in not time flat. Can it just be removed?

Pull out the whole bottom half of the air box and the flapper comes out with a phillips head screw driver. Stuff a ball of foil inside the hot air tube and reinstall everything minus the flap. Job done. I've had mine like this for 4 years and always passed smog.

I did a similar procedure on our 95. I instead cut a galvanized nail to fit in place of the thermostat pin to keep the flapper open.
