Looking at a 94 940 Turbo Wagon 900 1994

129k miles. They want $6200 for it. That sounds high to me, but I could be way off. Is something like this worth that much if it's in excellent condition throughout?? What problem areas should I be watching for when I look at it?

The Price feels a bit high. I paid about that for my 93 945T with 130K 6 years ago. The car you are looking at is in my opinion is one of the best Volvo has ever made.

    Looking at a 94 940 Turbo Wagon 900 1994

Below are things I had to do on our 95 940 turbo wagon within six months after purchase, because they broke down. Body and interior in great shape, but needed some attention mechanically. It had 80,000 miles on it then. Paid $5900.

    DATE - PROBLEM - JOB
1/30/05 - Intercooler hose blew - Replace front IC hoses, both sides
2/25/05 - Rear washer pump not working - Replace tailgate nozzle
    Replace rear washer pump
3/25/05 - AC not cooling - Replace evaporator
    4/9/05 - Stalled - Replaced speed sensor
5/1/05 - Drivers headlight needs replacing -Replaced w/ Sylvania 9004
5/1/05 - Radiator leak -Replaced radiator, expansion tank, upper&lower
radiator hose, oil cooler hoses and clamps,
expansion tank, hose to exp tank, heater valve,
    heater hoses yet, thermostat
7/11/05 Drive belt broke - Replace drive belts, alternator bushings

Check oil coolant hoses by the oil filter. These can get soaked with dripping oil and not obviously noticeable because they are underneath the car. Mine were soft and spongy, so I replaced them. I did numerous other things not mentioned above for maintenance or to upgrade the car. I hope this helps.

    Looking at a 94 940 Turbo Wagon 900 1994

I bought my 93 945t w/112xxx mi @ 9 months ago,not perfect but better than average condition, a few minor mechanical problems:
    1) needed new fuel pressure reg. $60
    2) new control arm bushings ~$40
    3) leak in a/c hose, havent fixed yet guessing $300-400 total

Seller asking $3500 but accepted offer of $2700

Personally I dont think I'd even consider paying that much for a 945t unless it was in almost perfect condition, had all the original manuals and dealer service records.

You didnt say if the "they" is a private owner or a dealer. As a reformed car salesman I can tell you if its a dealer it would be safe to figure that their asking price may be $2000-3000 more than what they would actually sell the car for. Even a private seller at times will be willing to deal quite a bit (almost 25% below asking price on my car) If either of these apply then you may be able to get a great car AND a great price. When it comes to discount and car salesmen "you dont get if you dont ask"

    Good luck and post bac!!

Price sounds high to me. I paid $3250 for the same car w/119k six months ago. A lot of it depends on where you are though. These cars have a lot of electrical gizmo's, (power sunroof, seat, mirrors etc) make sure they all work and check all the hoses around the turbo carefully for cracks/leaks . Also, look for smoke on startup and when the turbo goes into boost. It's always good if the car comes w/service records. It should have had a new radiator and at least one timing belt change.

They're great cars if you can find a good one. Hope this helps.

    Looking at a 94 940 Turbo Wagon 900 1994

    Hi Doug.
i searched for about 6 weeks and just recently found a 95 944 turbo on ebay.
it was one hour away so before bidding i went and checked it out.
it needed a few items like motor mounts 167.00$ shipped, falken tires 250.00$, vacume hoses, wheel alighment 70,00$, control arm bushings 41.00$ shipped. full tune up and drive belts. all oem parts. the purchase price of car was 3,169.00$ which was a very good price i believe for a two owner florida car w/117,000 miles, garage kept in great condition. thats about 3,800.00$.
the wagons bring more money where i live but the highest price 95 NA wagon i looked at was 6,500.00$ with 81,000 miles. (way out if my range)
i also added a 6 disc changer, ipd sways, center arm rest, sirius radio, crank shaft pulley all which i had laying around.
i still have the 85 turbo which i love and have much much more money in it.
you cant compare the two cars its apples and oranges.
the 940 is much more refined.
i dont know what its worth but the condition and maintainence is important in price.
    havent seen you post lately?
    good luck
    mike
