Coolant getting into crank case.

Hi guys,
I hope this isn't the end! There's smokey steam from the crank case orifices and there seems to be a tannish scum on the dipstick. No smoke from exhaust. I really hope that this does not mean a head gasket right now. I am badly financially pinched at the moment. Would re-torqing the head help or hurt? A friend suggested "radiator stop leak". Will this do more harm than good? Any suggestions would really be appreciated.
Thanks a bunch, :(
-Bob A.

"ALL ALL" heading for model and year are NOT helpful!
What car/engine is this? Makes a big difference in how easy the job is
and whether or not retorquing might help. New or old headgasket?

Sounds like head gasket. Stop leak may work for a short time, but if the leak is even slight it will fail. Fortunately, a new DIY head gasket job is not that expensive or complex: see the FAQ. Even if a shop did the work, you are only looking at $650 or so.
