Front End Suspension Noise in Cold Weather 900 1997

I have a 1997 Volvo 960 Wagon with 62K miles on it. The car is in great shape, however, when it gets below...say 50 degrees (F), the front suspension makes creaking noises when I go over bumps in the road. The mechanic I last used laughed, saying it was "one of those volvo things."
Can someone give me a real answer and tell me if this is something I need to be concerned about?

Thank you.

Spray some WD40 will help. I had the same noise for some years and was cured by replacing the front struts and bearings. Your front struts and bearings should last you another 50k, if you can live with the noise.

Thanks for the reply. I have used silicone spray before. That solves the problem, until it rains. So, I take it this may be a common problem, that's actually more an annoyance than a concern?

Hello. If you want to correct the problem new struts will take the noise away. The seals are old and hard at cold temp. so they tend to make noises. Your struts are ten years old, do yourself a nice treat and buy new struts, I have had great service from the Moog Parts line of struts. Pauli
