O2 sensor mileage

I'm trying to get a little better mileage out of my B230FT (93 944T). Will replacing the sensor work or do I also have to replace Air Mass Sensor. Is replacing this sensor hard? Or what other things can I do to the engine to get a little better MPG these computer controlled car just adjust everything and I don't know what. The useage is currently @ 20.4 MPG at a constant 70 mph Hwy. driving for 3 hrs. or more. This engine should be able to get 25 mpg or more at that speed.
Please advise what I can do.

I understand the lead-foot and acceleration problems, I'm looking for a mechanical solution not the physical one I know.

Replacing the 02 sensor or MAF sensor will only benefit your mileage if they are faulty; your first task should be to test these (per the FAQ's). If they are within spec then swapping them is a waste of money.

Better to check thoroughly for vacuum and intake leaks, and inspect your ignition system (plugs, wires, cap, rotor and distributor) and make sure your timing is set to spec. Also be sure your tires are inflated properly and wheel alignment is good.

It's easy to lose 3-5 mpg with a handful of little things not quite right; I'd look at those first before I started replacing expensive parts...

Thanks I'll check for vacuum leaks although I don't know how. (I can't hear anything as I'm half deaf) Is there a way to check for leaks?
Electrical and timing are relatively new (3K miles). Tires are new and nitronized (which I recommend to all) and aligned.
I hope it is a vacuum leak as I can replace hoses at a lot less $$$ than the sensors as you mentioned
Thanks,
