B21F component question 200

1979 B21F 242 GT N/A. There is a valve of some type that is located in the center of the intake manifold attached to the valve cover. This valve has a 2 prong connector on top and a hose, 1/2 in dia, attached to the middle of the base. The whole thing is about 4 inches long. I have the electrical connector connected but I do not know where the hose go to. The hose is about 1/2 inch diameter and is shaped like an S. I know it goes down the side of the block, but to where? This is not the cold start valve that attaches to the intake itself. Thanks,...Max:>)

ANSWER B21F component question 200 1979

That sounds like the Aux Air Valve, a Kjet component that lets in extra air to mix with the extra fuel provided by the Warm Up Regulator (aka Control Pressure Regulator) for cold starting and running. The AAV is basically a throttle bypass.

Works like the fast idle cam on the old automatic chokes.

The 2 wire plug goes to an internal heater that gradually reduces the bypass air passage over a 2 to 3 minute period.

This site would be a good place to start your Kjet learning curve.
Bentley section 240 has a lot too, but doesn't relate specifically to your '79, unless it has the "Lambda" (O2 sensor) system for fuel mixture trim control.

B21F component question 200 1979

Bruce; Thanks I bookmarked the site. Nice. And I do Have the Lanbda Sonde as it has a badge on my grill that says so..It's a 79 242GT. Bentley does not have the hose routing and emmisions routing for the hoses I am missing..I needed to know where the hose that attaches to the Aux. Air Valve run to, I can see it starts at the valve and runs down beside the block but to what I do not know as it is all missing..Thaks again..Max

B21F component question 200 1979

There are 2 hoses...both are S shaped. As Lucid wrote this Aux Air Valve is a bypass system. It bypasses the throttle plate. On my 80 B21 non turbo.

The top hose attaches to the intake manifold just behind the Cold Start injector.
The hose off the bottom of the Aux Air Valve attaches just below the throttle plate at that Thumb Screw valve, but that hose T's off into a Plastic Vacuum Valve , which itself has a small hose that goes to the other nipple on the Thumb Screw Valve.

So that's about as clear as mud....right?

Why oh why don't they make 240s anymore :(

B21F component question 200

Ken; If your frined has one I would really appericate it if he has any pictures of the engine compartment. More specific the hose routing for any and every hose that connects to the engine in any way. I bought this car and discovered that every hose had been removed. He drove it WITHOUT and air cleaner or air intake system of any type... That's why I had to rebuild the head. All the valves had trash on them. Thanks, I f you get them send me an email please so I can open up my storage area some. Another brickster sent me some pics a while back and I could not get my email storage large enough. I think I have that problem fixed,, I hope..Thanks again,,,Max
