760 turbo diesel / ZF 4HP22 transmission question 700 1985

I have a 1985 760 turbo diesel that I have been reassembling from parts, and I just noticed that the torque converter is missing. I am having significant problems finding one for this car, but I am wondering if the torque converter is the same as the ones used in other cars with this transmission. I know that alot of BMW's and Range Rovers used this transmission.

any help or additional resources would be GREATLY appreciated.
thanks

    760 turbo diesel / ZF 4HP22 transmission question 700 1985

    Hello
The diesel torque converters have a higher stall speed than the gas torque converters.
The best car to check data for is a BMW, it had gas and diesel cars with the same auto tranny.
When I put an AW71 behind mine, I had to use the Toyota diesel pickup torque converter and a special bell housing. If I had it to do over, it would be a manual box with overdrive!
    Hope this answers your question.

    760 turbo diesel / ZF 4HP22 transmission question 700 1985

I have a 740 wagon with the D24T engine and ZF 4hp22 transmission. I am planning to switch out the transmission and replace it with an M46 + o/drive soon. The auto is still functioning and so the torque converter is too. Once it is removed, I will be wanting to dispose of the transmission and torque converter.

I am not able to give any identity to it though and I do not know if it is the same as used on other Volvo's or other brands. You may also need the flex plate which will be particular to the D24(t) as it has to engage with the starter, unless of course it is still attached to your engine.

    Steve
