my dad's lost 544 has been found 444-544

If you recall my posts from December, I recently bought my first 544. It is a twin to the one my father bought new in 1965. My purchase prompted an interest in him to find his. Through some detective work on his part, he tracked it down and talked to the current owner this past Sunday. It is still in Rhode Island, where we lived when it was sold around 1972. The good news is that it's in great shape. It has been garaged all these years. The orginal paint has yet to be covered by a repaint. The bad news? they waited for years for the previous owner to sell so now they don't want to let it go, even to the orginal owner. If you look at the photos you can see that they are twins as they are even the same color. It would have been great to have a matching set in the family. If they ever change their minds..........

Congrats on finding your dad's old 544. I concur with the comments about keeping in touch with the corrent owners.

I sold my last 544 in 1976. It went to Pennsylvania and thru about 3 owners there and then disappeared. Ive been looking for it off and on for the last several years. It was a 63 with a bright Corvette yellow paint job and a pair of side draft Weber carbs at the time. I'd like to find it again one day. It'd make a nice companion for my Duett.

Good story. I also bought a blue 65, 544 in Rhode Island in 1967. The car was just like new and even had the protective coating in places under the hood. Your pictures are a nostalgic trip for me and it looks like you even have the polished aluminium (I think)slotted wheel trim covers. I would love to find a set of those today in good shape. I had a white 1960 three speed 544 up to then but the light blue 65 was the car I really loved.

Very nice looking cars. It is kind of disappointing that you can't get the car back again (at least not yet), but I'd suggest making good friends (pen pals?) with the current owners. That way if they ever want to sell you will be at the top of the list, and if not then at least you've got some new Volvo pals and some shared automotive history! :-D
