Putting water into a cylinder scares me. But a lot of people swear by this method.

Something my Dad said to me comes to mind here.
" If the fix was sold in a bottle, then they wouldn't need mechanics."
Think about that one. I do all my own work and have never found it necessary to put Seafoam or water into any of my cars, GMs or Volvos. I've been driving GM since 1983 and Volvo since 1992. Oh and some other variety crap in between that I'd rather not mention. None of which ever needed a shot of water. Throttle body cleaning is the best way to keep those passages clean.
    Good Luck...

Tried it once, carefully letting water go into a vacuum line to the manifold while driving at 3000RPM. The result was a a cylinder at 40psi compression where they were all about 130 before. Still haven't pulled the head to see, but rest assured, I'm not a fan of the water treatment...or for that matter any of those "rebuild in a bottle" stories.

BTW this was on my MGB.

If your engine has enough dirt, sludge or carbon to cause problems (real problems, not jut perceived ones) take it apart and fix it.

I did this on my 230f before adding the turbo. I never let it stall out. Oil came out pretty crappy. I was using quality oil and only had 125k on it..

    steam clean 200

I don't know about the "top end cleaners" but this reminds me of my old Irish auto mechanics teacher. At one point in his career he worked on MGs . One of the jobs was to de-carbon the head, paid flat rate some number of hours (I forget). He told us that it was a common practice for him and his fellows to slowly pour water down the carb with the engine running fast. Much more renumerative than than the dis-assembly, scraping ect expected by the flat rate book , and he said , just as effective. One of my all time favorite teachers.

What year is your brick? 200

If you're doing this on an old filthy K-jet, I wouldn't let it stall out with the Seafoam in the intake. I had a good k-jet system get so gummed up from the old crud dripping back down the intake path that it ran like shit until I opened it up and cleaned the hell out of everything.

Boo on Seafoam. In spite of Turbobricks' claims, it won't add 15hp to your car. Clean your throttle body if you want smoother throttle response, add a can of injector cleaner and drive in second on the way to work.

I just did it last night. Water first, seafoam second on an B230f. The water makes big white steam clouds. Seafoam makes black cloud after you restart the engine. Its your signal to drive the snot out of it. Give the engine short 1/2 second bursts of water at 3k rpm. Follow those instructions closely.

I've heard a couple bad stories, but a heck of a lot more good stories...

I believe teh water is evaporated pretty quickly and acts as a steam cleaner sort of.

    Never tried it myself.

Search this board for seafoam and you'll come across some info.
