removing 960 driveshaft for towing in the middle of the street? 900 1997

Long story short. I'm looking into buying a non-running 960 and dragging it back home 4 hours on a tow-dolly. I can either drag it from the front and leave the rear wheels on the ground, but I'll have to remove the driveshaft. Having not seen underneath a 960 in quite some time I dont know if it's something that can be done in 5 minutes, on the ground with minimal tools or if there's 80 heat shields, exhaust systems, etc... in the way. The other option is to drag it with the front wheels on the ground providing the steering will "lock" with the wheels pointed relatively straight. Should be interesting nonetheless.

It's been awhile since I removed the driveshaft of my 960. But, as I recall, you should be able to disconnect six flange bolts at the rear, four flange bolts at the transmission, and two bolts at the center support bearing housing. I don't remember there being any heat shields or other obstructions that would need to be removed.

If you go this route, be sure to mark exactly how the flanges mate on both ends so you can put the shaft back exactly as it came out for balancing purposes. Volvo literature even states that flange bolts on the rear of the shaft may be of varying lengths from the factory to get the exact balance. If the bolt lengths differ, be sure to mark which bolts go in which holes.
