I'm looking for matched front and rear seats for my 1969 142. Currently the fronts are from a 144 so they don't tilt forward correctly. I also need door panels and rear passenger area panels. I wouldn't mind a decent set of carpeting either. I just spent all my fun money getting this car home from California so please don't crucify me on the prices!

Just got a set of black with orange stripe GT seats. Does anybody happen to have a GT rear seat bottom?

Trackside Turbo may have some interior stuff.

Where are you located? I have a set of black door and rear passenger panels that came out of a 71' 142E.

I am here in Portland also.
I was going to use them on my car, but have decided to stick with the stock color.
I will be out of town for the next two weeks.
I can call or e-mail you when I get back in town if your interested.

B4_Ford,
I saw in your 'Garage' you need a hinge.
I have some excellent hood hinges.
Which one do you need?
Get my E-mail from Kyle and drop me a line, the BB
envelopes are not working with my mail program.
I agree the Hydras look like 20's on a 140,burn the
tires down and sell them to the 240 crowd.
Nice car I love the color and the rake.

well, I stopped by IPD today and chatted with Shane for awhile. He talked me into keeping the door panels. I can adapt a black 240 carpet to fit. Shouldn't be too hard to find at a junkyard. So all I really need are decent seats.

What color for the seats and carpet are you looking for?
Are they cloth or vinyl?

I'd like black panels. Prefer black or brown seats. Carpeting (what little there is) is currently grey. I'm more concerned with condition than color, as long as they match.

Too bad you're on the other coast, otherwise I have something you may have been interested in.
I've been trying to give away the brown cloth seats and carpet from my '72 144 for a few months now. Don't feel like shipping them. Not perfect, but decent shape. Just not many of these cars left in the Northeast so there is little interest and I can't bring myself to throw them out yet. Sounds like you wouldn't be interested in the fronts anyway since they are from a 144.

rubber mats.
Car is Cali -White, so medium blue for a 71 would be best for carpet.

It has rubber mats that are cracked and worn. There is some carpeting along the tranny tunnel with matching floor mats in grey. The door panels were redone in a forest print fabric. Pine cones and birds, oh my!

Ethan,
Ah! I know the car you're talking about. The "Avian" motif... Missed out on that one the first time around. Nice catch indeed, that car was loaded.

You know the car? I got in down in San Luis Obispo. I think that it has spent most of it's life in the San Jose area. The block has a plaque from a shop in San Jose with a date stamp from 1980. The more I drive it the more I'm impressed. The new temp sensor came in today @ IPD, I just need to go pick it up. This car has a "D" Type overdrive unit. I've only had a "J" Type before. Is it safe to assume that I can drain this one the same as the J and fill it with Redline MTF?

Ethan,
Yep, one & the same! Pains me so much I missed that one, being broke is a blessing & a curse I guess. I would have parted it after a while, probably... so I'm glad someone here got it.
Yeah, the guy before you bought it in San Jose, and that owner had it for about 8 years of daily driving. I still have his email/phone if you think you'd like it. I'd be curious what the guy you got it from did to it aside from the Hydras.
As for the M41: I don't use one, so I don't know. Frankly, I avoid them because of the amalgamation of delicate hydraulics, heavy-duty gears, and solenoid activation. it all seems contradictory to me.
In the gearbox, I'm a big fan of Gear Oil.
In hydraulics, ATF. I think the J-type likes ATF type A.
If you have something that calls for both, like the M41, motor oil should work, something medium weight. Expect some wear.
I don't know a thing about Redline MTF. Whatever you use ought to be mineral based, or it will affect the hydraulic seals in the OD.

You bastard. :-P You definitely should not have said that. I mean, if the car is a piece of poo, THEN I'll allow you to part it, but even then... My 142, it's bad enough that I won't mind too much, but just know that someone could continue using it for years to come. I would if I didn't want money more. :-P

Kyle,
Well... get in touch with Ethan and learn why I thought it was on it's last legs.
Apparently that's no longer the case?
Anyway. It's not like I'm going to cut the '68. I don't even have a swasall. I'm thinking parts transfer... which would rob your little demon of it's heart & soul but would lend some to 3 hungry Volvos.
No I'm thinking Strombergs, Bald tires on Bertones, and slowly swapping out the suspension with the '70, at least partially. The interior with what I have laying around already. Sounds like what's going to stop it is the cam. Not the end of your 142 by a longshot... Keep it around in place of the '74 in the back-up role. Besides the '70 will probably break something bigger first and it will all end up back on the 68...
Back in December, this '69 sounded like it was on it's death bed 7 years ago, stuggling on only because it was a Volvo.
Best, -Sean

Sean,
What were the problems that led you to think that this car was nearly dead? The engine and carb is strong, the suspension is pretty tight, and the body is solid. It leaks some oil and needs some bushings replaced, but overall it is a long way from even having one foot in the grave. I know that Alex (the guy that I bought it from) did some work to it but it didn't sound like he did anything major other than re-jetting the carb. I'm just curious if there are things that I need to watch out for or at least double check with this car.
|
|
|
|
According to the drags tonight, I don't think it's in QUITE as good of shape as you thought... I wouldn't call it dead by any means what so ever, but I wouldn't say the engine's that good. Then again, I'm really starting to believe that the DGV is no good no matter how "well" it's tuned. Sure, it can idle nicely, and probably get some good gas mileage, but for going fast? Hell no.

Check your OVT pm's. Confirmed low compression.

If you have his email I'd love to get in contact with the guy. Besides Hydras, he re-jetted the carb. It has KYB shocks, front & rear IPD bars, and lowering springs (I don't think that they are cut springs). It's got a folder of reciepts, many from IPD over the past 3 years. Original warranty coupon book from Florida, too!

The 1970 142S I have here in Australia has turquoise seats, rubber mats and the small amount of turquoise carpet on the transmission tunnel. The door panels are black.

Thought so,the tunnel got a hump for the short
shifter in 72,and I think 70 was still rubber mats.
So that kind of narrows it down to 71 for carpets
that are correct, however 240 carpets may be close.

I don't know how well the carpets from a 240 would fit, but I put the carpet from a '72 164 into my '70 145 and it fit pretty good. The tunnel is bulked up a little, but not horrible. If you didn't know how it was supposed to fit, you may not notice. I was able to fit a small box in the cutout for the short shifter to hold change, papers etc.

If someone happens to come through on the very light grey fronts in cloth, I have a nice bench for the rear.
Since we're asking:
I really, really would like to find '74 142 front seats like this:

West of the Rockies!
Score on the 142; enjoy!

I had a 71 - 145 with thin stripes in varying shades of beige. I wonder if there is any info somewhere on the various interiors other than what is seen in the brochures?
I swear a new genuine Volvo seat colour, fabric, or pattern presents itself to me on a regular basis.

I downloaded 'karosseri 2 pdf' from a Volvo site I stumbled upon.
It means 'carbody' in Swedish, and is 397 pages long,
and very comprehensive for the 140 series, with exploded diagrams,
and part numbers.
Sorry,I can't remember how I found it.
