240 Ignition Switch Replacement 200 1992

I need to replace the ignition switch on my 92 GL because it does not return all the way after starting. It keeps the starter engaged as well as the SRS light lit and the OD on light lit. If I move the switch a hair to the left after starting everything is ok.

Has anyone replaced an ignition switch before? Any tips on performing this?

Thanks

Hello, Are you a good contortionist? Two small screws, flat tip about 3/16 wide, pull off electrical connector and remove the swicth. Simple, but it sounds like you need a little lube in the ignition tumblers as well. Pauli

Are you saying that I could spray something in the switch and avoid replacing it? If so what--WD40?

Hello, I am saying that if the tumblers in the key part of the switch are stiff and the key turns a bit hard, then yes the switch may still be good. Pauli Use a lubricant spray, not W-D40, such as CRC light lube.

If the mechanical part of the switch is replaced, doesn't that negate the need to spray something in the tumblers?

My tip is to be sure to have a flashlight, lay out something like an ice chest and lay on your back comfortably to work. Have a screwdriver with the replaceable tip socket type handy - you know, the kind where you can pop off the socket looking end and get it into a tight place and turn it with your hand.

Also, when installing the switch, once it's in place, you have to turn the key to seat it.

Mainly the bear is that the 2 flat screws that hold the switch in place are hard to get to, so you need to be on your back, running a screwdriver up under and behind the dash wires to reach what you need.
