Rigid Vacuum Hose Replacement 700 1992

I'm planning to replace all vacuum lines. I bought 10 feet of Goodyear hose from Auto Zone, and I'm ready to go.

The question is this: My '92 has two very thin, rigid vacuum lines with black rubber connectors on the ends, one of which connects to the manifold and the MAP sensor on the left strut tower (it's a Regina car). Will I regret replacing this rigid hose with a traditional style rubber vacuum hose, or am I creating worries where none exist? In short, is vacuum hose vacuum hose as long as it's well-made?

Thanks, everyone.

My understanding is that that one is rigid exactly because it goes to the manifold air pressure sensor. A flexible hose could expand and contract, subtly influencing the pressure in the hose and therefore the pressure measured. I guess the rigid hose does a better job of transmitting the actual manifold pressure correct to the sensor.

I thought that might be true. That's what sparked my question. I guess, then, that if a person ever needed to replace that particular line, it would be a dealer-only item.

      Thanks for your reply.

I pulled a bunch of that rigid hose off a junk Volvo a while back. The car was 20 years old, 300K+ miles and the hose was in perfectly fine shape. The rubber ends are always suspect -- like any rubber vacuum hose -- so I'd consider replacing the ends. You may find that your new vacuum hose works as a replacement for the rubber ends. Also, NAPA has a fantastic silicone vacuum hose -- it's a fantastic upgrade because it's made out of a far superior material (it is not affected by exposure to oil, and is much more resistant to exposure to heat) Plus it works splendidly for making ends for the rigid vacuum lines.
