power and/or economy B21F w/ K-Jet 200

Hello,

1978 245DL

I'm not looking to get crazy nor jepordize the reliability of this motor but I am interested in a mod hear and there especially while the head is off.

-Considering a valve job would a port and polish give much w/o changing the exhaust manifold?

-A cam that boosts low end torque, and then has a kick @ around 5500rpms is there such a thing? I'm dreaming right?

-Is there ignition tricks that yield significant performance?

-I don't need to race I just want to get on the on ramp safely here in LA.

can I hit the junk yard and get some good stuff! injectors, bigger air cleaner,
better head, exhaust manifold, brakes, springs ect... ???

Thanks

I know you can get a better cam shaft and Im sure you can get an upgraded head, it would be nice to go 0 to 60 in less than a weekend :)

Purchase a dremel or hand held rotary kit. Port out the exhaust manifold. Get Ngk copper plugs, use bougicord wires. Get a K cam and delete the first muffler. Put 36 psi in your cold tires. Is the timing belt dead on? Throw some techron fuel snake oil in the gas tank, get a new universal (cheap) O2 sensor, clean the hell out of the trottle body. Fill up a bucket with degreaser or kerosene and stick the intake manifold in there. Make sure the vacuum hoses don't have tiny splits in them. Use premium 93 oct gas for chriss sakes. Is the seven dollor fuel filter old? Take stupid crap out of the trunk that you don't need. Leave your dumb, fat girl-friend at home. MY b21F gets 28 on highway cruising at 85 70 90 and spurts when I want to teach a bmwAudisuburuVWmercHondaMitsupoopy a lesson. I got the M-46 which I recommend. Get an electric from an 850, delete your clutch fan, ETC ETC ETC.

Power and Economy Do Not Exist On the Same Vehicle. You'll need to make some sacrfices with on or the other until you reach a tertium quid. MY advice is to read and research both here and on turbobricks as well as your haynes and bentley manuals. Subscribe for ipd catalogs; they're free and full of good ideas. Get your volvo to a good state of tune FIRST. Then experiment with cams and so forth. Do a search on P-base for Volvo--> great inspirational stuff there.

AGAIN. Do your homework first before giving your head and lotsa money to some yutz. Spend a good month or so researching. I'll bet you change your perspective on this to include better, more pragmatic, long-term goals that in the end will yield a faster brick.
