starter solenoid problem? S90-V90 2001

Wife's car. Upon turning on the ignition key, repeated clicking sound, blinking dash lights. Starter Motor not engaging.Strong dash lights (battery charged).

Suspect Starter Solenoid?

Am I right?

    Yep. Check the wires to the starter for evidence of being "cooked". Limp wire or loose ground wire? You may not be getting 10V+ to the starter, so also check the lead coming off the battery for corrosion.

    Hey Bud,
    I'm not a Volvo person, but with my other cars I've missed diagnosed starter problems in the past. So to be sure, can you put out the solenoid and put 12 volts across the coil and then see if it engages? I'd think that would tell you for sure.
