Rotating Shifter 444-544

Stupid question (most of mine seem to fit in that category) The shifter on my transmission ('65 PV544) rotates. Is there a pin or some other type of device that will lock it in place?

Every single one I've ever seen does the same thing. The chrome extension is held onto the actual shifter shaft with a circlip over a rubber bushing. I suppose one could drill through the fat part and fit a pin, but anal types would lose the entertainment of constantly trying to keep the knob oriented properly. ;-)

    Hello,

If you mean the chrome upper half of the shifter, it should be able to twist, but it should not be easy.

There are rubber bushings inside the shifter handle and if they are old, the handle can twist more easily.

I should have both the upper and lower shifter handle bushings in stock.

BTW, a 1965 Lincoln Continental is the reason I got involved with my first Volvo. Back in 1977, when the timing chain on my old Lincoln broke, I got involved with my first 122.

      Hey Eric,

Rebuilding my '64 Lincoln is what gave me the confidence to work on the Volvo(s). Can you email me your phone number so I can talk to you about the bushings?
