Price and Places for AMMs for 1983 242dl? 200

Hi all,
I need to get a new AMM for my 1983 242dl, but I'm not sure where the best place is to get one and what price I should be looking at. I've looked at FcP and they've got rebuild for $189 and a new for $250 something. Should I just go with a rebuild or should I look at a new one? Which would have a longer life? Thanks for the help all!

It is B23F. The B21F and FT have no AMM, and the B21F with LH was 1982.

Let me second Jorrell, please please try the spray before you spring for a new or rebuilt amm. Spray the crap out of it and see if it does the trick. It did with mine. CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner or similar.

Don Volvo:

Although I have not had to replace an AMM yet, over the years, I've heard numerous folks on the BB "almost curse" rebuilt units. Based upon that, I would recommend the extra sixty bucks or so for a new one.

Once again, not personal experience here, just a summary of responses from others. Have you considered trying to clean the "hot wire"/bore of the AMM with spray cleaner? If not, give it a shot, you have nothing to lose at this point.

Thanks both of you!
Um, is there a good place to get AMM cleaner? Or should I just do a search for it on the internet? Thanks again!

Most auto parts stores should have it. I think I got my last can at Pep Boys. As Jorrel stated, it will probably be called MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor cleaner. AMM and MAF are the same in this context.

Thanks all!
I'll see if I can get some today and see what happens. I guess I should add that the AMM I'm working on is a rebuilt one anyhow- I found a sticker on the bottom that has rebuilt written on it with some numbers and Python Injection- not sure how good or bad Python Injection is. Thanks again for the input all!
