rebuilt/reseal kit for power steering rack 200


I have to either replace it or reseal/rebuild it since it won't hold the fluid. I'll try to reseal it first. There are some rebuild/reseal kits outhere, but do I need to know if I have ZF or CAM rack before buying the rebuild/reseal kit?

hello tom,
i read up on what to do when my 86 245 rack went.

i think it's best to go rebuilt.

1) guarantee.
2) if you rebuilt it yourself, anything that goes wrong, it can be bad and you may not know what is wrong with it.
3) rebuilt only needs to be installed, have new ps/hose banjo crush washers, and new front end alignment. follow flushing procedures, follow instructions in faq 7xx/9xx, search in bb. read, read, read.

after it's done, you're pretty sure that you're good for many miles and years, and it's secure.

i didn't want any my-rebuilt failures to occur driving somewhere in texas. peace of mind.

I looked in to doing the same thing. But it requires special tools that I don't have. It's cheaper to buy a new one (about $200) Or buy a used one from your local pick and pull (about $50). I went used. The rack I found was very clean and low miles.

going from memory on info in the green book, there are special tools to rebuild the rack and i dont think most people have any of them.

never thought of that for some reason.
i've also heard (as mentioned above) that it takes special tools to disassemble a steering rack. on the other hand, i've taken apart a couple of zf racks and interchanged parts without using any special tools. don't know about cam racks.
