RS134a into 1997 965, somethi9ng isn't right, but what?

Car is outside running as I write.

Started project with engine stopped. Ambient temp on porch is 85F, car dash says 90F.

Backed off the penetrating thing in the can connector, attached can tightly. Then connected hose to fitting on dryer. Lots of pressure in there, had to push on real hard.

Turned can penetrator in as far as it would go, started car. Set a/c on lowest temt, fan on high. Went to look at gauge.

After 30 mins of this, here is what I see:

Uninsulated line down on chassis rail is quite cold to the touch.

Air center vent is 85F.

Compressor is cycling on and off in 5-second intervals.

Gauge drops to 22psi, compressor kicks in, rises to 45psi, compressor kicks out.

Can feels about as heavy as does an unused can.

So - is no R134a going in?

It is leaking out as quick as it goes in?

Since the uninsulated line is way cold, something is working, the variable orifice?

Is there some control in the fancy-schmantsy ACC climate control that is bad?

What can I do next?

All ideas are welcome.

Thanks to all.

Bob

    ANSWER RS134a into 1997 965, somethi9ng isn't right, but what?

Open the valve on the can(unscrew the penetrator); run the engine at 1500 rpm.

This post has been marked as an answer to the original question.

Well, "whack" shoulda had a V-8, or at least remembered how to do the job. Been some years.

      Thanks,

      Bob.

        RS134a into 1997 965, something wasn't right, but now...

The gauge went to 22psi, compressor kicked in, and is just now up to 40 psi and pumping its little heart out.

Center vent temp down to 75 and falling.

It is almost embarassing to need help, but this new car new engine new refrigerant, and visions of a $1000 repair had me a bit buffaloed, I guess.

Tons of thanks to McDuck for a quick response, and for reading between the steps done for the step omitted.

Wife.sig will be joyful, and (I hope) not too frozen.

        Thanks again,

        Bob
