Muffler 140-160

Going to be in need of a muffler for a 144. Parts diagram show two mufflers or silencers as they are listed. One in front of the axle and the other behind. Mine only has the rear muffler. The pipes in and out seem ok but you never know until you get the old unit off. Where does one get replacements? GCP seems to list them.

Like Tom, I have the Skandix 2" exhaust system. This exhaust is manufactured by Simons. It installed faily easily. It includes the two silencers and resembles the OEM appearance. I'm very happy I choose to go with this system. - www.skandix.com

I have purchased Starla (aka Walker) products from FCP in the past. They seem to fit well and last a few years.
I currently have a Skandix system on my 145. The Skandix system is more money but does seem to be higher quality than the Starla. I think I've had the Skandix system for about 3 years now.

In either case, check the system that you have now. I've only seen two muffler units as a factory fit on 140s and it sounds like you don't have that.
Also check the diameter. B18 and carburated B20s had a smaller diamter exhaust system. Injected B20s had larger diameter pipes which are a common upgrade on carburated cars. Fit up the same way, just larger from the engine to the tailpipe.

It looks like mine had two mufflers at one time. The front muffler looks like it was replaced with straight pipe. I can see Walker on the existing rear muffler.

I've got a small diameter front pipe if you need one.

I ordered a rear muffler from GCP. They list as silencer. I had a walker on there. Got it removed and input and tailpipe in good shape. Looks like past owner elimated the front muffler.

Will the rear one I have coming in be enough be too loud by itself? Walker one wasn't bad. Hate to put a new one in and tightened the camps down and find out I need to add the front and I already clamped things down.

Another option is to use a bullet-type for the first muffler. That's what I did. You'd have to find a really short one, however, to still have enough space to attach a pipe to go over the axle. Mine is a little loud, but that's mostly because I used a 240 Turbo muffler for the main and a larger diameter pipe.
