Door warning lamps 700 1990

I have a GL 4dr. Rear door warning lamps only come on if one or both of the front doors is open. (Both front door lamps work). Does anyone know if this is standard operation? No help from owner's manual.

Besides a dead switch, you also need a good ground connection from the
switch to ground made with the flat head torx screw
-
shine up everthing with an ink eraser and put some dielectric silicone
maybe you have a bad ground.

Good luck, B.B.

Switches are like $6 at FCP Groton.

I would be willing to bet that the dome lights don't work when the rear doors are open either(My passenger rear is like this). If so, clean the contacts in the switches, otherwise you've probably got bad contacts at the bulbs or maybe wiring problems in the door.

ANSWER Door warning lamps 700 1990

Each door light is supposed to come on when that particular door is opened. Try taking out the switches (located in the front of the door jamb, near the hinges, held in place by a single torx head screw) and cleaning the contacts.

When cleaning the contacts, take precautions to prevent losing the end of the wire inside the door post. It can be a major hassle to retrieve it if this happens. Wrapping the end of the wire wtih tape, leaving a "flag" an inch or two long should do it, or clip something sturdy to it, or tie a string to it.
