Addition of a Battery Disconnect Switch 444-544

The switch is on the inside of the firewall, close to the hood latch release. This is the opposite side, where I've added a disconnect to the negative side of the battery:

Here's a closeup of the switch. The one I installed is the bottome one (from JC Whitney):

So the next time I cut an unfused wire and my car starts to smoke, I have a quick/easy way to disconnect the battery before there is a fire.

If your car is not a daily driver it is also good to disconnect if left for any extended period if time. It reduces the chance of corosion at all points of contact as there is no voltage present. It also serves as a good anti theft device. I always disconnect with a similar device when ever I part my car in the garage.

I don't think I have any photos of it, but I installed a cut-off switch on the negative post of my battery. Any time I'm working on a part that is likely to cause a short (like when I remove the dash gauge panel) or leave the car unused for a period of time, I just spin the knob on the switch to isolated the battery.

It also functions as a sort-of theft prevention device, as the hood latch is hard to find, so a would-be thief is unlikely to be able to reconnect the battery.
