hello well have gotten 300.00 89 volvo 240 dl running real good passed smog changed tranny mount new belts plugs filters etc bellypan, replaced trunklid headlight tailight and windshield so now for more cosmetic fixes .The bumper is damaged the passenger side energy absorber is pussed in and when i say pussed in i mean pushed in pushed in so far that bolt that retains energy absorber is shheared and pushed in approx. 6 inches my question is will energy absorbers from 83 240 turbo work on 89 240 dl my vadis says 2 different part numbers have measered both look extremly close any help would be great

No, front shock is stepped to mate with bumper surfaces. Prior to 86 the shock mount to bumper was a flat plane.

Since the 82 was the last year for the "Commando" bumpers, the 83 might work.

But there was another change in bumper and surrounding trim beginning with the 1986 model, which might change the shock absorbers. There will be a change in p/n if anything at all changes, even a bolt hole size or location.

Sorta depends on how much it will cost you if it doesn't.


BTW, is there any way you can post in less of a stream-of-consciousness format? With these older eyes I found myself having to work at making sense of your post.

well got the 83 bumper on 89 this is what i had to do.
replace both energy absorbers from 83 to the 89
bolt on bumper and bumper cover from 83 to 89

the actual bumper on the 83 while the same size as the 89 is slightly different energy absorbers of 83 will not work on 89 and vice versa.

its nice having a parts car even though some parts are not compatable
