Stupid question on 1993 244 - fuse location 200 1993

I am troubleshooting a no-start condition and step one in the "Gospel According to Haynes" book is to check the "in-line ignition fuse". Could someone post a pic showing where this little bugger is? I can find the ignition amplifier, diagnostic connector, etc, but see no in-line fuse anywhere.

Thanks...

Stupid question on 1993 244 - fuse location 200 1993

93 does not have the fuse in the engine bay I believe it is fuse # 6 in the fuse box. The fuel injection system (pump) relay in the passenger comparment footwell is the next thing to look at. Place a jumper on the left side of fuses 4 and 6, this will force both fuel pumps to run. If it start now you need a fuel system relay. Dan

Stupid question on 1993 244 - fuse location 200 1993

I guess that's what I get for listening to Haynes... No wonder I couldn't find it. >:-|

Thanks, I've cleaned and greased all of the fuses in the fuse block in the kick-panel so will try the fuel pump jumping test next time I have a chance to work on it. Let me get this straight, I put a jumper wire BETWEEN these two points, correct?

Justin B.

Yes on the left side of fuses 4 and 6. Get the Bentley and check out the FAQ's.

Stupid question on 1993 244 - fuse location 200 1993

Got a chance to jump these this morning, still "No Joy in Mudville" so I guess I move on to dragging the O-scope out of the back of the closet and looking at the output of the crank sensor. At least I was able to find THAT connector, I think... ;-) Do you know - offhand - what the amplitude of the pulse/waveform should be or will just be having one there do the job?

No such a thing as a stupid question 200 1993

Hi Justin,

Where ya been? I s'pose you might ask me that too. We used to banter about the verb "to Fosterize" years ago, I think. You had a turbo.

Anyhow, I bookmarked a thread here that could be helpful to compare with your scope readings. Dunno how far you're into that, but I've always grabbed a meter and scope before trusting the OBD on the 6, or ignition side. I was able to get it to report a code by cranking with the CPS disconnected, but still, if it became intermittent I wouldn't count on it. No spark? That jumper from 4 to 6 puts battery constant on the fuel pumps, but it doesn't help with spark.

Hey, Art, good to hear from you - it has been a long time and have been busy with motorcycles, machining, etc. The Turbo is long gone, we got this '93 244 and something had to go but I'm already starting to wish I had it back and this '93 was gone... It's the first Volvo that's made me walk.

By looking at your pics it appears you have a much fancier scope than I do! :-\ I take it ICUxx is a pin number on the ICU main harness plug that needs to be patched out? If I get a chance I'll maybe look at this this weekend except I had planned on patching out the connector where it plugs into the harness at the firewall...

Yes, I just take the cover off the ICU and put the probes on the plug inside. I think that's easiest, but I did put a note in my pocket to grab one of those 3-pin connectors from a wiring harness, next yard trip.

Funny, most people consider my analog scope to be a relic, but to me it is state-of-the-art compared with its predecessor on the workbench.

You spend the first two years of their life teaching them to walk and talk. Then you spend the next sixteen telling them to sit down and shut up.
