Shocks - Boge TurboGas or Bilstein Touring 200

Sorry for the repeat, figured I'd post this under 200 since many people don't look at the 700 list...

Looking for opinions on ride quality/handling of Boge TurboGas shocks vs Bilstein Economy/Touring (NOT the expensive HD shocks). Looking for ride/handling similar to the stock feel of the 740 Turbo (or 240 Turbo) or a little more controlled ride without ride harshness. Thanks -

Shocks - Boge TurboGas or Bilstein Touring 200

In all seriousness put the Bilstein HD on, they are worth every penny of the difference between them and Economy or Boge. I have them on every car I own and would not consider any other having tried a number of alternatives on the route to shock satisfaction.

Shocks - Boge TurboGas or Bilstein Touring 200

Hello Zack,

Coincidentally, UPS brought me a set of rear Bilstein HD shocks at 4:00 pm this afternoon, and they were installed on another 244 DL sedan I purchased recently by 5:30 pm.

I now have a 1985 244 GL with Bilstein HD rear shocks, and Bilstein HD front struts, as well as the above mentioned 1985 244 DL with the Bilstein HD rear shocks, and have ordered a set of Bilstein front struts as well. I kind of have to do it as cashflow permits. Disposable cash isn't a problem I have often, so believe me when I say it is a sacrifice for me to pay the extra money for the exceptional Bilstein quality. I hear you loud and clear on the cost factor, but...Hey, when it comes down to it, ie, "that moment" or "crunch time", I don't have to wonder or worry with Bilstein's, and that makes all the difference in the world to me, and I wouldn't have it any other way, personally.

The words "ride harshness" really don't apply to Bilstein HD's on a vehicle weighing in at two tons, more or less.

A more apt way of describing the Bilstein shocks' performance is "ride confidence". Simply put, I feel tight to the road at all times, even the occasional washboarded superelevated dirt roads I find myself cruising down occasionally. I never feel harsh, jolted, or "bammed".

Of course, you will need to replace all (or almost all) of your suspension's front and rear bushing's to achieve the maximum potential of the Bilstein HD's.

While you can get the Bilstein's from FCP Groton for 80 bucks each (not including shipping) and Ipd for 83 bucks each(again not including shipping) you will find them at shockdude.com for a good deal less, and that cost will include the shipping. They are a registered Bilstein dealer...I found them when I visited Bilstein's website, thinking I could buy directly from Bilstein (you can't.) I paid $158 bucks, and that included the $7.50 shipping charge. I ordered them on Friday, they arrived today (Monday).

In short, You wouldn't regret putting the HD's on your Volvo. And no, I am not affiliated with Bilstein in any way...just a appreciative user of their fine shocks and struts.

I should say, in retrospect, that I have never tried the TC's, therefore cannot make any informed comments on them.

Good luck!

I got the Boges for the front struts and have been really happy with them. It's a nice firm feel without being a harsh ride. Haven't tried the Bilstein.
