Not exhaust related, but since you are new to Volvos, order a catalog from IPD. It’s free and will be an interesting read, plus they are a good place to pick up some items for your car like Mann oil filters / crush washers for the oil pan drain plug. Think of IPD as the Crutchfield of car places - great products and service but sometimes a little pricey.

Replace the brackets [] with < and >, and don't forget the quotes (" ").
You can do this job yourself if you want to save $$$. Since you would be doing a complete replacement it's not hard, just cut everything off and put the new system on. As for how to test the cat, put on a leather glove, slide under your car and rap it pretty heard with your knuckles. Do you hear stuff moving around, like broken glass? If so it needs to be replaced. On mine ('93 945T), when I took off my muffler system I notices a lot of metal / ceramic stuff coming out so I just replaced it. Then again, on mine it was a $120 part, on yours it looks like a $300 part. And if you do it yourself, get a small angle grinder, makes taking the old one off and cutting it up a cinch.
