Tranny Whine S90-V90

Back a few months ago I ordered a tranny gasket and filter with a new O ring from Grotten. I droped the pan and cleaned every thing up(really was pretty clean anyway) and installed the new filter and O ring. I buttened everything back up,at the beginning evrything was fine but I have had a tranny whine coming from the car now upon acceleration-any chances it could be the filter and O ring I installed causing this?
I have been using Mobil1 atf for over 100k miles now if someone wants to add try using that and see if it goes away. Also added some Lucas tranny treatment not long ago also to no avail.

I had a whine in the transmission of my 96'960. It was not consistent, but loud when it happened. It turned out to be the bearing in the shaft extension. It was not a hard job to do. To separate the diferential in the middle is tricky because it is very tight. Make a mark so you install it back exactly the same it was also use new bolts in the universal join. Well, all that if decide this is you case.
I have a loud pich nose in one of my 940 after warm up, also not cosistent and never changes up or down as the car accelerates or slows down. I haven't figure that one out after one year. Tet us know how it goes.

When I place the car into drive there is a different noise coming out of the tranny-not a roar but a sound that was not there before-if you give the car a little gas the sound will change to a whine as soon as the engine gives a little power--it's the tranny and just thinking I might have a leaking filter causing the problem(leaking around the 0 rings where the filter is connected to the tranny).

It is cleary not a bearing now. You guess is the best guess. May have to drop that pan again to make sure. I have a lot of cases of having to do things twice. Now I write a check list a check steps done when I put things together, so my mind don't play games with me... did I did that and that?? Also count all my tools before I star the engine :)

Hi Poolman:
Well, this is a shot in the dark, but I had the same concern about the 965--a whine that I was sure was coming from the tranny upon acceleration. It turned out to be actually coming from a leak in the vacuum system that controls the air conditioning/heating vents. Any chance that this might be the case for you?

Mike

Mike thanks for the responce but I'm sure where it's coming from and it's the tranny. Been there and done that on the airvent problem.

I am not familiar with the screen and O ring set up on that tranny. I do know that on other trannies that cavitation at the pump can produce a whine if the pick up to the pump is restricted or if air enters the pick up before the pump. Assume the fluid level is correct.
Curious, what was the condition of the screen (or is it a filter).

There are really three areas in the tranny that have what I'm calling 0 rings on the filter body-On the one from Volvo they were made of some kind of rubber type material on the one from Grottons they are cork type. The filter is a screen mesh wire materail and the fluid is nice and red-had a system flush about 20k miles before with Mobil 1 atf syn fluid and when I dropped the pan I replaced what I drained back with the Mobil. Fluid lever is right on the money on the dipstick.
Thanks for the responce
