Can I easily switch 544 SEATS for my '53 444 444-544

Hello Volvo Lovers,
I have a 1953 PV444 E, that I have modified in several ways: (or in reality, have paid skilled mechanics to modify) 6volt to 12 volt, B4B engine to B20 engine, front disc brake conversion. 3 Speed tranny to 4 Speed, (Wish it had 5) Nice Radial white wall tires from Coker.
It is now time to restore the interior, and was wondering if anyone has some interesting approaches to replacing the Front Seats. They don't "lock". If you hit the brakes, & someone is in the back seat.... they're gonna push the back of the seat forward. Kind of dangerous.

Thanks! Jeff

You will want to make a box such as this with angle iron

Then you can put any narrowish seats in there. I found a pair from an 89 (?) Chevy Calais in a junkyard. Stripped them down, including most of the foam, and put in new foam and reupholstered them.

Hi Jeff: As most know I own a pair of '53s, just a little north of you. I have opted to keep the original seats, having scored 6 metres of original blue/gray cloth. VP Autoparts also sell exact match covers. I'm sure you could take any more modern bucket seat and use the original rails, welded to the newer frame. You have to watch the replacement seats are not too wide and of course you might not find a matching rear seat, but sure that's the least of your concerns. Sorry, I have no specific makes, but sure more responses will be forthcoming.

PS: What's you PV444 V.I.N. and do you have any original parts you wish to trade? I ususally have things shipped to Massena, NY then cross the border.

Sounds like a very nice car you have built/are building (paid someone to build/will pay to have built)

'53 pretty rare in the States...

I can't offer a whole lot up in the advice department, but I'd sure hope you go with seats that look similar to original in shape, so they can be upholstered similarly to what your car originally had.

If safety is your main concern, I'll of course assume you already have 3 point belts... at least up front.

I'd also look into what that steering column might do in the event of a front end collision.. it might be a solid rod that goes.. um.. well... through the driver's chest.

Pictures of the car please!
