Dear LMU,
May this find you well. An armature is the part of an electric motor, that turns.
To access the relay block, you should remove the front center console storage tray. To do that, remove the bezel - around the lighter opening - on the left side of the storage tray opening. To remove the bezel, grip the right side of the bezel, and pull it outwards (towards you). It should pop loose, with minimal effort.
You'll see two Phillips head screws (one is in the upper left corner of the lighter opening; the other is at the bottom of the opening). Remove them and set them aside. To remove the storage tray, grip the right side (the side closest to the passenger seat) and gently pull out that side of the tray. You will then be able to access and to disconnect the wires, the lead to the lighter (there should be three wires). The lighter wire connectors are of different sizes, so there's no need to note which wires goes to each contact.
Once you have removed the storage tray, you'll find there's plenty of space to access all of the relays. On most 940s, the fuel pump relay is on the extreme left-hand side of the second (middle) row. The fuel pump relay is white, rectangular, and about 2" (50mm) tall. (On some 1994 and almost all 1995 940s, the fuel pump relay is a blue cube, in the front row of the relays, in the middle).
To remove the fuel pump relay from the relay block, grip the relay firmly and pull straight up. To install the replacement, align the relay's "feet" with the openings in the relay block, and press the relay into place.
It is a good idea to keep a spare fuel pump relay in the glovebox.
Reverse these steps to re-connect the wires to the lighter and to reinstall the storage tray.
Hope this helps.
Yours faithfully,
spook
