light behind ac temp dial 900 1997

had my radio out and center panel out on my 97 960 so I could change the sunroof switch out. Successful job and no cracks on veneer, but when I put back I noticed the light behind my temp control dial (far right) is out. It's the only one! can you tell me what I did and how do i undo what i did. Thanks.

?...can you tell me what I did..."

My experience with the warning light bulbs in my 240s showed me that after 10 years or so those bulbs get so close to burnihg out that a little bump will break the filament.

That's why I agree with Spook, once you get in there, replace them all. When you buy the new bulbs, get a bunch.

    Good Luck,

    Bob

    I did this last week 900 1997

Hi, I replaced both my bulbs last week, although I did crack the veneer.

When removing the radio and assembly, be sure to remove the shifter, belowe it. this makes getting the veneer off with less riskof breaking it.

Take out the radio, use a torz to remove the climare control unit. Disconnect it from the powew.

Next, use a small philips and remove the metal cover on top. There are screws on each side and top.

When off, you will see two black plugs plugges into the face of the temp unit. Turn them and they slide out. You will see the bulbs.

There are two 'rice' bulbs, one on each side, and cost about $2.50 each. The slip out of the socket very easily. It is a good idea to replace both as it is a pita and risk of damaging things with another reassembly.

    Reverse to reassemble. Good luck.

    Dear p700walk,

May this find you well. You may not have done anything at all. However, the small light bulb, mounted in the top of the ECC (Electronic Climate Control) unit has either burned out, or has been jostled to the point where it doesn't connect.

The following advice is based on the 940 cars. I believe that on the 960s, you can remove the ECC by first removing the wood bezel and then the mounting screws. After that, you can pull the ECC unit forward (towards the passenger seats).

The bulbs should be accessible at the top of the unit. There is a panel. Remove it. You should be able to access the bulb. The part number is #3522164. Id' guess this is a dealer item.

    Hope this helps.

    Yours faithfully,

    spook

Just got all these responses...Thanks so much for the help and I'm gonna tackle it in the next couple days. Are there any possibilities for switching out all bulbs to red or can someone point me to a previous post. Thanks. Later.
