I was wondering if anyone knows of some good performance driving schools on the East coast? I've always wanted to learn how to do some of the cool stuff like they do on Top Gear on the track.

Thanks!
Dave

I attended the Audi Driving Experience at the Panoz facility in Braselton ( IIRC ) GA. A fun 2 days, and educational. I recommend it. I think you can find details on Audi's website.

My first recommendation would be to sign up for some manufacturer sponsored track events. They are FUN FUN FUN and usually free. I've done an autoX sponsored by Mazda and am about to do an autoX / track day sponsored by audi.

These things usually travel around the country, so location isn't that big of an issue. The reason I recommend doing this first is because it helps with the 'first day jitters' about staring out the windshield onto a very intimidating racetrack (with full raced prepped cars all around you). That way, when you pay the big $$ to do it in your own car (or at a driving school) you won't be as nervous.

Now, for taking your own car on the track, my best recommendation is to find a drivers club in the area (I'm in South Florida and there is NASA, PBOC, and a few others) and find out when they are renting the track. Its usually $150/saturday or sunday or $275 for the whole weekend for the novice category.

My last recommendation is not to do this with a 240 unless you have significant track modifications, even if it is a manual. You're just going to be frustrated.

There's also one called the Skip Barber school of driving in which they use Mazdas. I looked at their website and it looks like a lot of fun. Kind of expensive though.

Summit Point is in WEST VIRGINIA. West Virginia is a separate state, split from Virginia in 1863. rcs

BMW's plant has a school in Spartanburg South Carolina. It's not necessary to own a Bimmer to participate and I believe they offer a variety of programs.
