adding a different ignition 1800

Howdy all!

I was wanting to see if any of you have put another ignition in thier 1800. I have the original, and no key. plus, i would like to by-pass the stock coil.
I have a different ignition key in my 122 (has the same stock coil tho') and I have an aftermarket coil in it. but it was done before I got it.
I am not sure how the wiring would go to a different ignition switch. And I don't know what kind of ignition to get either. My 122 key is a volvo key, but not sure where it is from.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks
Kent

It's fairly straightforward. Get an after market switch & coil. Disconnect the original; block off the hole from the old coil. Run a wire from the ign. switch to the ballast resister, then to the plus side of the coil. Minus side of the coil goes to the dist. You can get creative & wire the radio to the acc. side of the ign. switch but that's optional.

Not very difficult. You can by a coil and a simple ignition switch at almost any auto parts store. Neither one is expensive. The wiring is pretty simple. If you don't have a manual for your car, do a search on this site on wiring diagrams. Since your car hasn't been altered, it should be easy to find and hook up the wires to make it run.
