This new '92 keeps blowing fuses 200

Ok, so i got me a 92 with a pesky Automatic...
it keeps blowing the last fuse (#16 tailight etc.) and the Bulb Alert in the cluster STAYS on only when the headlights are on, yet everything is functional... I've noticed the left rear fog light is a bit bright when not turned on... hmmm - maybe i have the wrong circuit in the taillights (but FCP shows that it's a one size fits all type thing)

Also, this automatic dies/stalls upon start up - i start the car and every time i gotta hold the accelerator down a pinch to keep the idle - after about 3-5 minutes in gear the idle will balance out --- the linkage to the shifter seems not-so-firm...

And where is the Idle Adjustment knob that my 87 had on the under side of the TB?

I'm working some bugs out so far, ribs STILL irritate me even tho i've pulled the old 87 230F w/ M47 attached... gotta find a good body to put it in.. oh well

Tim

    Tim -

    1) ...where is the Idle Adjustment knob that my 87 had on the under side of the TB? Not on the '92. Different engine control system.

    2) the linkage to the shifter seems not-so-firm... There are bushings on each end of the long rod that connects the lever at the bottom of the shifter column to the lever on the side of the tranny. If a bushng has fallen out, result is slop in shifting. If both bushings fall out, lots of slop. If the rod itself becomes disconnected, whatever gear you were in at the moment you stay in. You'd best get under the right side of the car (up on a ramp or a jackstand) and look at that linkage.

    3) Regarding the fuse #16 problem. Helps to know whether your Volvo is a sedan or a wagon. Big difference in rear lighting and wiring. And, and the Bulb Alert in the cluster STAYS on only when the headlights are on,... does it stay on with the head light switch on Parking Lights? That fuse powers front and rear parking lights and other things. Any problems with the other things powerd through that fuse? My info is for a 1988 244, your '91 might be different.

    4) I've noticed the left rear fog light is a bit bright when not turned on... So not only is the LR fog light extra bright, it stays on when the switch is off, right? Remove that bulb holder and see what the Bulb Failure light does.

    Good Luck,

    Bob

Make sure all the bulbs are correct. They need to be the right bulb for the socket, and the correct socket needs to be in the correct spot.

Make sure the headlight bulbs (and all brake and taillight bulbs)are the same brand, or they may trigger the light.

Sounds like the throttle body needs to be cleaned, or maybe the idle valve is failing.

    These throttle bodies don't have an adjustment like the older ones. Here how I service the throttle body;

    1. Remove T/B
    2. Clean bore and plate thoroughly
    3. Loosen idle stop screw and idle switch
    4. Bring stop screw so it just touches lever and turn another 1/2 turn, tighten nut.
    5. Adjust Idle switch
    6. Install T/B with new gasket
    7. install throttle linkage and make sure it isn't holding the throttle open.
    8. Warm engine to operating temp, pinch off hose to idle valve, rpm should drop 200 rpms or so, but shouldn't stall!

Sounds like your shift linkage bushings are bad. Very inexpensive, but makes a big difference.

    Good Luck
