Hi, all!
1983 240 GL non-turbo, automatic trans.

VIN number YV1AX8848D1912018

The distibutor, I'm assuming, is Bosch, as the cap's brown, and the Ignition Control box (on the right front inner fender area) says Volvo USA 1317873... It's got a vacuum device down there on the front edge of the box, and the hose to it seems fine... I feel vacuum in the hose when the engine's
running and I pull it off... Just curious as to whether this combination of components is proper, or if it might have been cobbled together, or what? Would a dealer be able to tell me, based on the VIN number, what it had when new?

That ICU will work with either Bosch or chrysler dist. Bill

ok, well that's a bit of a comfort, anyway... Soooo... I'm guessing the next step is to check timing, after first finding the mark on the crank pulley that indicates TDC.... Is it on the edge nearest the front of the car, or the edge nearest the block?
